Famously linked with Macbeth by Shakespeare,
this fortress, dating from the late 14th century
was built by the Thanes of Cawdor and is still
home to the Cawdor family to this day. The
medieval tower and drawbridge are still intact
and generations of art lovers and scholars are
responsible for the collection of paintings,
tapestries, furniture, books and porcelain to be
found in the castle. The facilities: three
beautiful gardens - the flower garden, the wild
garden and the newly restored walled garden; 5
colour coded nature trails through spectacular
mature mixed woodland; nine-hole golf course and
putting green; licensed restaurant in the castle
which serves hot meals, snacks and home baking;
snack bar and picnic area; gift shop with a
large selection of Scottish crafts, book shop
and wool shop with the best of Scottish
cashmere.

Although in a fairly
ruinous state, Urquhart Castle remains an
impressive stronghold.
Urquhart is one of the largest castles in
Scotland with splendid views from its
magnificent location on the shore of the
famous Loch Ness.
Built in the 1230s, seized by the English in
1296, sacked by the MacDonald Lord of the
Isles in 1545, the castle was left to fall
into decay after 1689. |

Most of the existing buildings date from the
14th century. Visitor centre with
interpretation, audio-visual, shop and café.
Located 2 miles S of Drumnadrochit on the A82.

At the time of the Jacobite rising in 1745-46,
Culloden House was requisitioned by Bonnie
Prince Charlie and used as his lodging and
battle headquarters prior to that fateful and
final battle on Culloden Moor on the 16th April
1746. Today, this handsome Palladian country
house stands in nearly 40 acres where guests are
free to wander about the elegant lawns and
parkland to enjoy the exceptional peace,
tranquillity and majesty of the grounds. The
interior features a wonderfully comfortable
drawing-room with magnificent Adamesque
plasterwork, many fine antiques and a large open
fire. Culloden House is rated STB and AA four
stars and two Rosettes for food.

The Inverness Floral Hall is a subtropical oasis
of rest and calm. Enjoy a relaxing visit among
rare and colourful flowers and award winning
landscapes of cacti and tropical plants. The
