Located between the Forth
Bridges and Burntisland, on the A921, Aberdour
gets its name from the River Dour on which is
stands (Aber = mouth of river + Dour).
On one side of the river
stands the ruined
Aberdour
Castle with its walled garden, now in the care of
Historic Scotand (see attractions/heritage) and on
the other stands Aberdour House, present home of
the Earls of Morton, to which the Douglas family
moved from the castle in 1725.
