Lying to the west of
Edinburgh, Bathgate is overlooked by beautiful
hills and was the birthplace in the early 19th
century of Sir James Simpson who pioneered the use
of ether and chloroform as anaesthetics.
The Bathgate Hills form part of a local country
park.
