This is one of the oldest
Christian centres in Britain - it was here in
397AD that St Ninian built Scotland’s first
Christian church, the white-plastered Candida
Casa. It became the destination for tens of
thousands of pilgrims, including Robert the
Bruce and Mary Queen Of Scots. While a local
museum has exhibits related to the saint, the
present ruin dates from the 13th
