Steeped in history Kirkconnell House was home to the Maxwell family for over 800 years and today visitors here can experience the life of a big country house whilst enjoying more modern day comforts. Walking cycling nature trails bird watching and a myriad historical attractions are all easily accessible as are golf and fishing and there are sandy beaches just 10 miles away. Dumfries is only 6 miles and New Abbey (1½ miles) offers a costume museum a ruined sweetheart abbey a cornmill tea rooms and a shop/P.O. as well as two pubs serving food.
