This area of golden sand and
undulating dunes protected by beautiful cliffs has
an abundance of wild flowers, butterflies and
moths. Once an important centre for salmon
netting, it has porpoises playing in the ocean
while a variety of birds swoop overhead. A
National Nature Reserve has been established in
the bay and its 200-plus acres have more than 300
species of plants.
The ruined 14th century Kaim
of Mathers castle hangs dramatically above the
surf.
