With
picturesque cottages adorning a narrow main
street, Starcross is a large east Devon
village on the estuary of the River Exe and is
famous as the location of a tall tower that
was originally a pumping station on Isambard
Kingdom Brunel’s experimental Atmospheric
Railway in the mid-19th century.
A pedestrian ferry runs between here and
Exmouth during the summer.
