This old village was
mentioned in the 11th century Domesday Book
and was, for a time in the 1920s, home to the
writer Henry Williamson.
He lived at Skirr Cottage but also wrote in an
old hut. The area inspired him to pen his most
famous book, Tarka the Otter, which led to
north Devon becoming 'Tarka Country'.
The local Church of St. George is thought to
date back to the 12th century. |
