The only London borough whose boundary spans the
River Thames, leafy Richmond - an amalgam of a
dozen or so towns - has more than 20 miles of
river bank as well as the glorious Richmond Park,
one of London's most attractive open spaces, and
the major attractions of Kew's Botanical Gardens
and Hampton Court Palace. The latter is the oldest
Tudor palace in the country and one of Henry
VIII's masterpieces.
Marble Hill House, built in
the 18th century for Henrietta Howard, mistress of
King George III, is also open to the public, as is
Twickenham Rugby Stadium and Museum.
Ham House is reputed to be one
of Britain’s most haunted properties. A superb
Stuart mansion, it has lavish interiors, beautiful
formal gardens and a 17th century-style kitchen
garden.
