One of Surrey’s best-preserved
villages, Lingfield boasts a 15th century cross, a
village pond, an oak tree that is several hundred
years old and an 18th century jail. Its church,
which dates back to the 14th century, contains the
some of the finest brasses in Surrey. The local
library is housed in another 15th century
building. Nearby stands the restored Haxted
watermill and museum.
A major attraction here is the
Lingfield Racecourse, set in 600 acres of
countryside and developed in the late 19th
century.
