Mentioned in the Domesday
Book, Bramley dates to the Saxon period. The area
was granted to William the Conqueror’s half
brother, Odo of Bayeux, following the momentous
Battle of Hastings in 1066. Surrounded by superb
rural views, Bramley has many historic properties
and its parish church dates to the 1100s. The
village was the birthplace of the garden designer
Gertrude Jeckyll.
