Dating from the Saxon period
this small commuter town, off the M25, developed
first around the unique Wey Navigation in the 17th
century, and later the railways. In 1916
Addlestone became the home of Louis Bleriot’s
aircraft company. He became the first person to
cross the English Channel in a heavier-than-air
craft. The Crouch Oak, which once marked the
boundary of Windsor Forest, is one of the oldest
trees in England.
