The Sheerness Heritage Centre
is a must-see for anyone wishing to investigate
the history of the ‘capital’ of the Isle of
Sheppey, a naval dockyard from the time it was put
on the map by Charles II in the mid-17th
century until its closure in the 1960s. It is now
a huge container port and the disembarkation point
for most of Britain’s imported cars.
