At the southern edge of Romney
Marsh, it was once a coastal town but is now three
miles away from the sea. The 132-ft tower of the
14th century Church of All Saints is
called the Cathedral of Romney Marsh and dominates
the flat landscape. A former rector was Thomas
(Cardinal) Wolsey. The explosive lyddite was
developed here.
