Holy Trinity Church, Penn - Photo:

This interesting village in
the splendid Chiltern Hills has a special
association with the United States - it was the
birthplace of William Penn (1644-1718), the
well-to-do English Quaker who went on to found the
colony of Pennsylvania and create the basis of the
American constitution. The local church dates back
to the 14th century and has a ‘doom’ painting
which only came to light in 1938 after it had been
hidden in the roof. |
