KEMPSTON
Although this one-time village
on the banks of the River Great Ouse is now a
dormitory town for bustling Bedford and Milton
Keynes, it oozes history. It was called "camestone"
in the Domesday Book and was the scene of the
crucial discovery of a perfectly preserved Anglo
Saxon drinking horn, now held by the British
Museum. The full story is told at a local Saxon
Centre.
