Prestonfield
Golf Club is set in beautiful parkland
within the heart of Scotland’s capital
city, and is located a mere one and a
half miles from the bustle of Princes
Street.
The 18 hole course is a testing par 70 of
6207 yards whose two par 5s are very long
but its par 3’s quite short by today’s
standards.
The character lies in the amount of long testing
par 4’s that can vary greatly depending on wind
direction and strength. Prestonfield’s reputation
of being a challenging but fair course has made
it a popular venue for a number of competitions
over the years including the prestigious
Lothians Match Play Championship on six
occasions. Open from dawn 'til dusk. Visitors
welcome. Prestonfield has full catering
facilities for societies, outings, company days
etc. Golf £32 per round, £40 per day.
Set in the foothills
of the Pentland Hills, approx. six miles south
of Edinburgh, Torphin Hill is an eighteen hole
heathland and ranges course, Par 68 with S.S.S.
67 measuring 5285 yards.
One of the most challenging golf courses in the
city, Braid Hills is not for the faint hearted.
But for golfers who like a challenge, or want to
test and develop their skills, this par 71
course will suit you to a 'tee'. It is 5865
yards long, hilly with areas of gorse bushes to
trap an errant shot. The course is one of the
most magnificent in Edinburgh, commanding
panoramic views across the capital.
Carrick Knowe Golf Course
Glendevon Park, Edinburgh, EH12 5UZ Tel: 0131 337 1096
This 6055 yards long par 70 golf course is set
in the heart of the capital adjacent to
Murrayfield Stadium. The course has been
remodelled and the front nine holes have been
constructed to USPGA specifications, giving an
interesting comparison between old and new. This
is a fantastic course and will suit golfers at
varying levels from beginners to the expert
golfer and provides a great morning or afternoon
out.
Views of Arthur's Seat and the historic Calton
Hill monuments characterise this 18 hole par 70
course. There is an interesting mix of holes on
this undulating parkland course from some tricky
little par threes to some very testing par
fours. This is a relatively short 5511 yard
course that will suit all abilities.
With Arthur's Seat as an attractive backdrop
this nine hole parkland course is a beautifully
prepared and forgiving course. It plays to its
2566 yards par 32, and the small tight greens
make for accurate approach shots. The signature
hole is the long par 3 9th. This 177 yard hole
requires a straight long iron, avoiding the
bunkers at 150 yards, and plays up to a sloping
green making it a great hole to finish on.
The Princes Course at the Braids is a brand new
9 hole course, opened this year. It has an
excellent mixture of par 3s and 4s making it
ideal for beginners, children and families. This
course complements our existing facility at the
Braids and commands excellent views of the
Capital. This course is less demanding than its
neighbour and offers a different kind of
challenge.
Set on the shores of the River Forth in the
north of the city, this course has some
wonderful views of the estuary and on a clear
day you can see across the water to Cramond
Island and Fife. The course is 6281 yards long
with a par of 71. The course is undulating and
parkland in nature, the fairways being long and
expansive, although wayward shots can be left
wanting. The beautiful nature of the course
makes playing this a wonderful golfing
experience for all abilities.
