The Theatre Royal, Dumfries was built in 1792
and is the oldest working theatre in Scotland.
It is the venue for the Guild of Players' own
productions and for performances from visiting
companies. These include: Scottish Opera, TAG,
the Royal Lyceum and Wildcat.
In addition it is used extensively as a venue
for Dumfries and Galloway Arts Festival, and for
Dumfries Music Festival and the Dumfries
Operatic Society.
NOTE: There will be a final play in September
2005 before the theatre closes for eighteen
months, while it is completely rebuilt. It will
re-open in May 2007 as a full-time Theatre.

Lochside Theatre is a producing / receiving
venue in the former St Andrew’s church which was
converted in 1996 by members of three local
drama / musical groups. The theatre is owned by
Lochside Theatre Holdings Ltd, (a registered
charity) and managed on their behalf by Lochside
Theatre Ltd. The two hundred seat auditorium is
professionally equipped and provides facilities
suitable for performance, cinema, conference,
lecture or large meetings.
The theatre also contains a meeting room with
catering facility available for separate hire. A
licensed bar is open on performance evenings.
Lochside Theatre is available for hire
throughout the year. It is our policy to provide
a varied programme which suits the needs of the
community and we welcome suggestions to further
this aim.
