This tiny
village lies in
the narrow upper
valley of the
Don, Scotland’s
sixth largest
river. Dominated
by its church
spire, it is a
place for
walkers,
anglers,
sightseers and
photographers.
Nearby is the
Lost Gallery,
which displays
modern art in a
gloriously
serene setting,
and Candacraig
Castle –
Highland home of
comedian Billy
Connolly – and
Corgarff Castle,
a tower house.
The latter was
built in about
1530 by the
Elphinstones. It
was burned in
1571 by Adam
Gordon of
Auchindoun,
killing nearly
30 people.
