This industrial town has a few
surprises in store. It contains a number of
magnificent Georgian buildings as well as the 14th
century Workington Hall, now a virtual ruin, where
Mary Queen of Scots stayed in 1568. The town owes
its prosperity to coal and supplied fuel to
steel-makers, taking it from seams beneath the
ocean. |
