Founded in 1906 and opened on its present site
in 1969 Alston Moor Golf Club is a 10 hole (18
tee) parkland and fell course measuring 5456
yards. The course is well maintained and has the
distinction of not having to use winter greens
as a result. Golfers are offered wonderful views
of the North Pennines and Tyne Valley, all the
more so due to the height of the course which
drops about 2000 feet to its lowest point. The
club is situated about two miles from Alston and
is in the process of updating to 18 holes.
Handicap certificates are not required for
visiting golfers.
Appleby Golf Club is a moorland course with a
delightful variety of holes and outstanding
views of the Lake District Mountains or Pennine
hills from all parts of the course. It is
renowned for the excellence of its greens. Not
too long for the average player many holes are
more challenging than at first appearance. The
clubhouse, extended in 1999, has a large and
comfortable lounge with superb views. Excellent
meals are provided by the Chef/Steward. The club
attracts many visitors who are made most
welcome. Many return frequently to enjoy the
friendliness, scenery, birdsong and splendid
golf course.
Founded in 1922 Barrow
Golf Club is an 18 hole par 71 parkland course
measuring 6137 yards. Situated approximately two
miles east of Barrow-in-Furness it provides
magnificent views of the Lake District and Duddon Estuary.
The course is known for its
excellent standard of greens and the fairways
are wide and open, not that this should
encourage wayward shots, however as the rough
can be punishing and there is an additional
challenge, due to the coastal breeze and large
number of trees. An exceptional golfing
experience. Changing room facilities available
to visitors including bar.
Founded in 1908 Carlisle Golf Club has an 18
hole 6263 yard parkland course with a par of 71.
The course is of an excellent standard all
through the year and is not overly long, yet
provides a challenge for golfers at every
handicap level, thanks to some strategic dog
legs and some memorable par 3's. Also with
excellent clubhouse and restaurant facilities
Carlisle Golf Club is well worth a visit.
The course is laid out on fell land on the east
side of Cockermouth and is easily accessible
from the A66 trans-Pennine road. At 5496 yards
it is not regarded as long. Nevertheless, it
gives a stern test to the discerning golfer,
particularly when the prevailing south west wind
blows. A positive feature of the course is the
panorama of fine views from various points. For
example, looking back from the fourth tee the
view is of Bassenthwaite Lake and, beyond it,
Skiddaw Fell. Walking down the 10th fairway one
can look back over Cockermouth town to the
Solway Firth and the coast of Dumfries and
Galloway. The testing holes are the 10th and
16th, which were re-arranged by James Braid.
Cockermouth is a historic club, and celebrated
its centenary in 1996 by providing a warm
welcome to visitors old and new. Visitors are
welcome on an on-going basis. Weekdays, tee
reservations are available at most times for
parties of 10 or more, whilst on Saturdays the
first tee can be reserved between 11am and
12.30pm, again for parties of 10 or more
golfers.
Founded in 1919
Grange-over-Sands Golf Club, located to the east
of Grange-over-Sands off the B5277, is an 18
hole 6065 yard parkland course.
The course is
relatively flat and is very well maintained with
strategically placed trees and ditches.
The greens are well protected, especially around
the par 3's so care and accuracy is needed. The
variety of golf offered to players is excellent
along with the clubhouse and the range of
facilities.
Founded in 1891
Kendal Golf Club is an 18 hole 5737 yard par 70
parkland course located around the summit of
Kendal Fell.
The club has an
excellent reputation for the fine standard of
its greens and fairways, set over woodland,
providing a rich habitat for wildlife, the
variety of each hole provides golfing challenges
for players of all standards.
The clubhouse has comprehensive changing
facilities for visiting golfers with a well
stocked bar and excellent, reasonably priced,
catering facilities. Buggies available. See our
website.
Established in 1890 Penrith Golf Club is an 18
hole 6026 yard course. Mostly flat with the
exception of one hole, the course provides superb
views across the lakes.
The course is well balanced, always changing in
direction and demanding good length from the tee.
It is set in rolling moorland with occasional pine
trees scattered throughout. Facilities include
driving range and all day catering. Buggies are
available.
Established in 1891
Windermere Golf Club has an 18 hole 5132 yard
course with a par of 67.
Set in a delightful area of the Lake District
National Park, about one and a half miles east
of Bowness, the course provides some superb
views of the mountains surrounding the lakes.
The course is very enjoyable, although short it
is slightly hilly and the fairways are
relatively narrow providing a sporting round of
golf.
Likewise the clubhouse
facilities and catering is also excellent,
perfect as a holiday destination. All visitors
are assured of a warm and friendly welcome. Once
visitors have played Windermere GC they return
time after time to enjoy the splendid golf
course.

are available at the clubhouse, and the club
itself is located approximately two miles south
east of Workingham.
