The British Automobile
Racing Club Yorkshire Centre runs ten hill
climbs each year between April and September
at the north's premier hill climb venue.
The track has a full asphalt surface and is
the UK's longest at 1448 meters.
With a width of around 4 meters, the tight
track guarantees high speed action as it
twists and turns from the valley bottom to the
summit, passing in between farm buildings
amongst other driver challenges.
Not only is there high speed action, but the
location is stunning too overlooking the
beautiful Wharfe Valley.
Harewood hosts two
weekends of the British Hillclimb Championship
in May and July, when the UK's top drivers
descend on the track for high speed action.
In June there is a Classic and Historic hill
climb with cars from days gone by being pushed
to their limit (and sometimes beyond).
Events include a range of competition cars
from road going saloons, through sports cars
to full blown single seater F1 powered race
cars.
Many meetings have special classes for cars
such as Ferrari, Porsche, Lotus, TVR, Morgan,
Aston Martin etc.
Harewood Hill Climb can
be found off the A659 between Harewood village
and Collingham.
There is ample free car parking, access to the
paddock to see the cars and drivers close up
and good trackside spectating.
There is a children's play area (subject to
weather), a commentary system, timing boards,
speed trap, food and a bar.
Full details of the events calendar, admission
charges, history, photos, videos, along with
loads of other information can be seen on the
website.
If you want to see competitive car racing
close up, come to Harewood Speed Hillclimb.
Organised Grand Prix allows you to put your
skills to the test, starting with heats of up to
ten drivers you prove your skills by progressing
to the final. Depending on the format all
drivers get a start from pole and can get the
same miles of racing. Position after the heats
can be based on points or wins and lap times,
the chose is yours. If you are the best, you are
top of the podium. Endurance Races allows you to
run teams of drivers for 1 to 4 hours of
exhilarating racing involving tactics, pit stops
for refuelling and driver changes. It is more
intense and demanding than Grand Prix and gives
more miles of racing. Hard Man Races are the
closest Kart Racing gets to Formula 1 in terms
of physical and mental experience. Tactics and
consistency are the key as one mistake can cost
you a podium finish. Races can also be for a set
number of laps. Arrive & Drive Practise Session.
You are invited to test your skills on our
circuit for your chosen duration.
Meets every other Thursday at the Wharfedale
Inn, Arthington Lane, Pool-in-Wharfedale from
9pm. Club organises 12-cars, scatters, autotests.
Marshalls on all forms of stage and forest
rallying.
