KING'S HEAD is an attractive
seventeenth century coaching inn. In the past, coaches rumbled through what is now the
entrance hall. The Duke of Buckingham's final resting place when he passed away in 1687.
He is immortalised in the nursery rhyme "Georgey Porgey Pudding & Pie".

exists at the hotel, providing both bar snacks, or full evening meal in our Dining Room
which offers excellent and delicious English food cooked with a twist, all prepared and
cooked by the proprietors of this very welcoming family run Hotel. We aim to make your

comfortable, log fire, sitting room or, if preferred, The Duke's Lounge Bar for a relaxed
evening which is directly attached to the Creighton Bar..

The historic
town of Kirkbymoorside was built, as the name implies, around a church on the edge of the
North York Moors. 553 square miles of National Parkland surround the Hotel, including
beautiful Rosedale, Bransdale and Farndale which is a delight in Springtime when daffodils
line the river banks. In Autumn the purple moor stretches as far as the eye can see to the
rugged Yorkshire coastline. The
area is rich in relics from the past. The tourist may wish to visit such places of
interest as Rievaulx or Byland Abbey, Castle Howard, Hutton-le-Hole Folk Museum or
the Saxon churches of Kirkdale or Lastingham.
Whitby, Scarborough and York are thirty
minutes drive away whilst golf, bowls, squash and tennis are all available to the visitor
to Kirkbymoorside. The area is well noted for its fishing, shooting and walking. Pony
trekking, horse riding, antique fairs and musical concerts are all within the reach of
visitors. |
