THURSBY

A typical Cumbrian village, Thursby took its name from the god, Thor. A temple dedicated to him stood nearby. The Crofton Estate, owned by the Brisco family, once covered several thousand acres and its lake, walled garden and stable block still exist. St Andrew’s Church dates back to the mid-19th century.
