Meadow Fishery consists of three purpose built
lakes (Mallard Lake, Meadow Lake and Willow
Lake) situated in 17 acres of low lying meadow.
They are spring fed which artificially raises
the existing high water table. The lakes are
stocked with both rainbow and brown trout to a
density of 150 to the acre and are restocked
daily on a 'put and take' basis, ensuring
consistent stocking levels. Although initially
man-made, care has been taken to make the lakes
look both natural and attractive. Two of the
lakes have islands which help attract a diverse
range of wildlife. Among the facilities provided
are toilet and washroom, changing room and ample
parking. Hot and cold drinks, crisps and
chocolate can be purchased in the shop, which is
one of the most comprehensively stocked game
fishing shops in the North West.
Five coarse fishing lakes and five trout lakes
in a pleasant rural setting surrounded by fields
and a large orchard. Good views of the Cheshire
Plain and Beeston Castle, particularly when the
trees have shed their leaves. The lakes are well
sheltered by hedges and earth banks and it is
usually possible to find pegs out of the wind.
At least 4 pegs on pool 1 are on a metalled path
and provide all-year wheelchair access. All pegs
on pools 1, 2, 4 and 5 have easy access in
summer, but muddy areas may cause problems
during wet weather. Pools 1 and 2 have carp to
low 20s, bream to 5lb+, roach to 2lb+, chub to
4lb, barbel to 2lb, crucian to 1lb, a few tench
to 4lb and at least one 3lb+ goldfish. Pool 3 is
similar but without the chub and barbel and the
largest carp are probably mid-doubles. Pools 4
and 5 are match lakes with a large head of
roach, bream and small carp. There are a few
large carp in pool 5, including a well-known
ghostie in the low 20s. The trout lakes are
fly-only and are regularly stocked two to three
times weekly with rainbow trout from 1lb 8oz -
27lbs.
