Having become one of the market leaders in the
north in terms of rainbow trout fisheries,
Glenowen Fisheries, with the aid of Creggan
Country Park Enterprises have now developed a
marvellous new fishery at the Lower Reservoir
with a first class landscaping scheme, good
access paths, disabled facilities etc. The
fishery has produced some great results for
anglers over the past ten years from banks and
boats. While many have their favourite rainbow
lure (the olive Sleech reigns supreme by the
way) there is ample opportunity to try out wet
flies , nymphs and dries and the evening rise in
high summer can provide the cream of local. The
system hosts a wealth of fly life with the bulk
of the activity being provided by buzzers early
in the year and by sedges in summer. It is a
very productive system, with a ph of 7 +, and
the feeding for trout is nothing short of
amazing. Like all fisheries this one has its hot
spots - the Big island at the bottom corner is a
great fish holding area, particularly the area
towards the outflow, while the dam area in
general seems to hold loads of fish. Equally
good is the opposite corner at the feeder stream
where a mixture of features tend to keep the
fish within easy casting reach while the
relative shallowness also makes it a productive
area in terms of food items! The easy casting
along the entire northern bank makes it a dream
for fly fishing, and the shallows along the edge
will surely come into their own as summer
approaches, since they will surely attract lots
of early morning feeders.
The Oaks Trout Fishery is a natural 14 acre lake
located in a beautiful country setting on the
outskirts of Derry City. Superb fighting trout
up to 10lbs Bait fishing is allowed. Worms only
and there is no spinning Old age pensioners

casting lessons Boat hire for five hours is

advice, hints and tips on all aspects of fly
fishing and with a friendly welcome assured,
everyone is welcome. The famous Irish Fly Tyer,
Robert McHaffie is also available for fly tying
advice certain days each week. Four fishing
