Most towns and villages in
Northumberland, as well as most of its tourist and
visitor attractions are served by public
transport. There are extensive bus services
throughout South East Northumberland linking the
main towns - Blyth, Cramlington, Ashington,
Bedlington and Morpeth - to each other and to
Newcastle upon Tyne. There are also regular
express bus services from Newcastle to other major
Northumberland market towns including Alnwick,
Berwick-upon-Tweed and Hexham.
There are over 30 bus
companies operating in Northumberland, many of
which run only one or two services. By far the
largest bus company is Arriva Northumbria, Arriva
buses operate out of 5 Northumberland bus stations
(plus Haymarket bus station in Newcastle). These
are at Alnwick, Ashington, Blyth, Hexham and
Morpeth.
Regular bus services are complemented by
specialist tourist services in the summer months
including the Hadrian's Wall bus and the Newcastle
to Kielder bus. Details about these two tourist
services are available from Hexham Tourist
Information Centre or via the Traveline telephone
enquiry service: 0870 608 2 608.
