The Rosedale ironstone
mines and treatment plants can still be seen
here, but the village of Ebberston is better
known for having England’s smallest ‘stately
home’, Ebberston Hall. It was built in 1718 in
the Palladian style by the noted architect
Colin Campbell, who lovingly called it a
‘Rustick Edifice’. On the moors above the
village is a Bronze Age burial mound. |
