This village in the upper
Esk Valley has a passenger station on the Esk
Valley rail line. Its castle has long gone but
the parish church contains furniture by the
wood carver Robert Thompson, known as ‘The
Mouseman’. Wonderful views can be found on
Castleton Rigg.
