History surrounds you – from the front windows there are views over to a lake, once a medieval fish pond, and from the rear windows to the church and the cloisters, formerly the heart of this Carthusian monastery. Guests in this cottage have the unique opportunity of enjoying the special tranquillity of the priory grounds ‘out of hours’.

 
Staying at the heart of this glorious former priory brings easy understanding of its 600 years of history. Around the Great Cloister it is plain to see how all the individual monks’ cells fitted in. Cell number 8 has been restored and is now furnished to give a fascinating insight into the monks’ austere life-style. Each cell had two storeys with a living area on the ground floor and a workroom on the first floor, where each monk had to practise a trade. Each monk lived a life of solitude, prayer and contemplation coming together only in church.
