Easy, traffic-free and safe cycling on the adjacent coastal trail is available to hirers starting from the centre. The scenic trail runs along the route of the 20 mile, old Whitby to Scarborough railway line.

With around 100 cycles on the fleet, Trailways gives you the opportunity to use the trail and capture beautiful sea views, hidden bays, remote beaches and lots more that you can't see by car. Pubs, tearooms and visitor attractions are all on or within easy reach of the Trailway cycle route. It's great fun for all the family. Trailways offers a fleet of over 100 cycles for hire as well as buggies, tandems and trailer bikes. Hire can be for 2 hours, 4 hours, a day or longer, and delivery, pick up, one way hire is by arrangement.

GROSMONT: This is the northern terminus of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. There are direct links with the Esk Valley railway to Whitby and Middlesbrough. The loco sheds are worth a visit.

PICKERING: A daily steam service operates between Pickering and Grosmont from Easter to the end of October. Special events and Dining. Circular 5 mile walk from the station, Waymark Walk leaflet no. 11. Cycle route from Newtondale Halt to Levisham Station.

Dalby Forest Drive is a 9 mile scenic drive that gives access to 9,000 acres of woodland, water and open space.

The Bridestones

The Bridestones are impressive outcrops of sandstone along the edge of a deep valley 3 miles north of Low Dalby along the Forest Drive.


Coastal Railway Track Walk

The Scarborough to Whitby railway opened in 1885 and closed in 1965. The track bed between Burniston and Whitby is now a walking route open to the public.


Danby Beacon

At 981ft a superb viewpoint for the moors and coast.


Falling Foss Waterfall (near Littlebeck)

A 30ft waterfall which can be spectacular after heavy rain. Approach from the B1416 at Red Gates or on foot from May Beck or Littlebeck. Falling Foss Forest Walk begins from the car park near the Foss. Allow 2+ hours.


Forge Valley

Forge Valley is a picturesque wooded valley, much of which is a National Nature Reserve. There are many fine walks along woodland and riverside paths. The site of the old forge is situated towards the northern end of the valley.


Lady Chapel

near Osmotherley

Built in the early 16th century but with many later additions. There are marvellous views into the Vale of York. Situated half an hour's walk from Osmotherley.


The Link Through The Tabular Hills Walk

A spectacular 40 mile walk through the Tabular Hills from Helmsley to Scarborough.


Mallyan Spout Waterfall, Goathland

The 70ft high Mallyan Spout can be reached by a footpath close to the Mallyan Spout Hotel. Water Ark is reached by a path from the car park.


Mulgrave Wood, Sandsend

Mulgrave Woods border two steep ravines reaching almost to the sea. Earthworks of a Norman Castle and picturesque remains of the later (c. 1200) castle add interest to a pleasant walk.


Raincliffe Woods, Scarborough

An eastern continuation of the Forge Valley woodlands. Several pleasant walks and picnic places. A small natural lake, Throxenby Mere, is situated towards the east on the edge of Scarborough


Ralph Cross

North-west of Rosedale Abbey at the junction with the Castleton road stands Ralph Cross. One of many ancient moorland crosses marking route ways or boundaries. Ralph Cross is the emblem of the National Park.


Reasty Bank

A well known viewpoint and picnic place north of Hackness. Reasty Bank top is the starting point for the 16 mile Reasty to Allerston 'Blue Man' walk.


Roman Road (near Goathland)

Running north of Pickering to the Esk Valley, its origin and destination are unknown. Long considered Roman in date, this is now less certain although it may date towards the end of the Roman occupation. The original surface is generally present.


Roseberry Topping

An outstanding landmark, over 1,000 feet above sea level. The Topping may be climbed from Newton-under-Roseberry or from Gribdale Gate.


Saltergate

Hole of Horcum and Levisham Moor. A large natural hollow and nearby moorland to the west of the A169 north of Pickering. This area was purchased by the National Park Committee in 1976 in order to protect the moorland from reclamation.


Snilesworth

Excellent views can be enjoyed from the moors around Osmotherley, and a recommended route (cars only!) is the road over Snilesworth Moor to Hawnby. Viewpoints include Chequers Inn, an old drovers' inn, now a farmhouse serving refreshments; Thimbleby Moor, and along the Cleveland Way to the trig point on Black Hambleton. There is a large car park and picnic area at Hazel Heads.

Our Farm Park Visitor Centre is located near Thirsk in North Yorkshire and is in the heart of Herriot Country and on the edge of the North York Moors National Park.

This wonderful Children's Farm is one of Yorkshire's best Places to Visit and is ideal for school visits and educational farm visits.

 

As an Animal Park it is extensive with so much to do.

We possess a varied collection of both Outdoor and Indoor Feeding Areas where you can see such as lambs, sheep, goats, calves, cattle, pigs, ponies, donkeys, horses, llamas, alpacas, wallabies, albino wallabies, deer, ducks, geese, hens, peacocks, rabbits and guinea pigs.
