Although it possesses a
rich history, Irthlingborough is best known
today as the home of both Rushden and Diamonds
Football Club and Dr Martens Shoes, the latter
representing a continuation of the footwear
industry for which Northamptonshire is famous.
A local cross with a 13ft shaft dates from the
13th century and is said to have been used as
the standard “pole” for measuring agricultural
land. St Peter's Church, dating to the 14th
century, is unusual in having a porch with
doors sited at the four cardinal points. |
