An attractive, ancient market town on the west edge of the Fens, Sleaford has much to
commend it, although very little remains of its famous castle where King John was
treated from the fever which killed him a few days later.
|
|
St Denys’s Church, which
dates from the 13th century, now dominates the
town with its 144ft stone spire – said to be
one of the oldest of its kind in England.

The Black Bull Inn has a carved stone dating from
1689 showing bull-baiting, a sport last practised
here in 1807. |
