Museums long ago ceased to be stuffy
rooms full of glass cases containing bits of old pottery
and fossilised bones.
Today even most conventional
museums including displays which change but over recent
years there has been a growth in industrial and "living"
museums.
Here you can get a feel for how people lived
and worked, the hardships they endured...
Galleries listed include not just civic
galleries displaying publicly owned artworks, but also
privately owned galleries with items for sale.
Not all the
museums and galleries in the Lincolnshire area are listed.
Please provide details of any we have missed
here.

Stamford has been called the finest stone town
in England, a town that has escaped both the
ravages of the Industrial Revolution and the
20th century. The town offers such a rich
mixture that it is difficult to take it all in
on a single visit. The museum's job is to
provide an interpretation for the visitor. It
does this through its displays, which set out
the history and archaeology of Stamford from the
earliest times to the 20th century, and through
its publications, notably a series of award
winning Town Trails.
