The course itself is a nicely maturing parkland
course designed as two loops of nine, both
finishing at the clubhouse, with ponds, ditches
and lakes (where you could catch roach, or carp
up to 14 lb). There is also a floodlit driving
range and a practice putting green.
Opened in 1936 Girton Golf Club was founded by
PGA Professional Allan Gow. Girton is an easy
walking, tight parkland course with mature
bushes and trees providing a testing game of
golf to players of all standards. Visitors are
welcome to play at the course on Monday to
Friday; no handicap certificate is required but
telephone in advance to confirm your tee-off
time. Golf Societies are welcome Monday to
Friday and an extensive range of packages are
available to suit every need.
Beginners/Inexperienced players: We hire
all the equipment you need including bag, clubs
and balls. Casual dress allowed. No restrictive
rules & regulations (except that you play safely
and respect the course and other players). A
very relaxed and informal atmosphere. A choice
of tees so that you can avoid the more difficult
hazards. Practise putting green and nets.
Experienced, friendly advice on coaching and
equipment. Experienced players: The
course provides excellent approach play and
short game practise as the greens are of very
good quality and well maintained. Pin positions
are chosen to provide challenging putts and chip
shots. With around 75% of golf played within 150
yards of the green Cambridge Lakes is the ideal
place for experienced players to enjoy a quick
practise round.
This privately owned course was first opened in
1991, and is 6498 yards (off the white tees) in
length. It is in quiet, rolling countryside,
with many large mature trees and has also been
planted with a large stock of additional trees
that are now reaching significant size. A river
runs throughout, which in combination with 3
lakes results in 11 holes having water hazards.
Overall it offers an enjoyable, peaceful
challenge to all levels of golfers.
